Discover a truly unique specialty coffee with a captivating history. Famous for its pale gold beans and incredibly smooth, low-acid flavour, this Indian Monsooned coffee offers a drinking experience unlike any other.

A 400-Year Coffee Legend

India’s romance with coffee spans nearly 4 centuries. Legend credits a pilgrim named Baba Budan with secretly bringing seven coffee seeds back from the Holy Land, sparking a rich farming tradition. By 1840, commercial plantations were thriving across the mountains of Southern India. The combination of high altitudes, sunny slopes, ample rainfall, and nutrient-rich soil created the perfect environment for cultivating exceptional coffee.

The Historic Voyage to Europe

Historically, Indian coffee was shipped to Europe on wooden sailing vessels. This long journey around the Cape of Good Hope took four to six months. Stored below the water line in a humid atmosphere, the moisture seeping through the wood naturally transformed the coffee. By the time it reached Europe, the bright green beans had turned pale gold, and their sharp acidity had completely disappeared, leaving a mellow, earthy flavour.

The Modern "Monsooning" Process

Today, this historic flavour profile is carefully recreated using a dedicated "Monsooning" process. Natural coffee beans are spread in thick layers in well-ventilated warehouses. Here, they are exposed to moisture-laden monsoon winds, naturally replicating the conditions of those historic sea voyages. The result is a consistently smooth, rich, and deeply satisfying coffee.
